May has been a month full of both exciting and difficult moments, and in contrast to most places around theworld going on summer vacation, work at Embrace is in full swing.
As our vision statement says, everything we do on a daily basis is ultimately to see street children transformed by the love of Christ and reconciled to God and family. Nothing about that goal is fast or easy, but God has evidently been at work in the hearts and lives of our boys. We are overjoyed to share that we have successfully reintegrated our first boy from Embrace, Nairobi, back into his family!
Vincent’s parents divorced when he was a baby, and his father moved away, leaving him with his mother, who was rarely home, struggling to provide for him and his siblings. Over the years, abuse and a bad relationship with his mother contributed to Vincent running away to stay with his aunt. There he encountered drugs and friends who influenced him to start skipping school to hang out on the streets. Eventually his addiction to drugs and street life consumed him, so he stole from his aunt to fund his new life, and transitioned to the streets full time to avoid facing the problems of his broken family. Fear of punishment from his aunt, prevented him from ever going back there again.
On a different note, although the major construction of Embrace has been complete for quite some time, there are many more small projects that are still coming together. For example, bookshelves for our library! Both our children and our staff love to read, and it’s much more organized now that we have a place for all of our books to stay!
Thank you to all who have been faithfully supporting Embrace with your prayers and finances! The body of Christ has many members with different roles, and furthering God’s Kingdom would not be possible here in Kenya without each of you! Please join us in continuing to pray for the boys preparing to go home, as well as all the lives that still remain to be reached on the streets.
