Dear Embrace partners, we are excited to share with you our latest ministryupdates and prayer requests.
Life at the Center
Our boys have opportunities to try a variety of new experiences during their stay at Embrace. To encourage academic development, we organized a Spelling Bee for the first time at Embrace where boys practiced spelling for weeks prior to testing their knowledge in a competitive event.
For another project, each boy chose a book of personal interest and dedicated several weeks to its study and analysis. They created posters to summarize what they learned and presented them before an audience. Events like these are not common in Kenyan public schools and we love seeing the boys’ develop a renewed interest and love for reading and growing their knowledge.
Thanks to a generous donation from a Canadian Church Youth, we were able to buy and install solar panels! This has already reduced our monthly power costs as well as the number of power outages we used to experience frequently.
Discipleship and Spiritual Life
Majority of our boys encounter temptations and discouragements on a regular basis. They struggle with anger management and conflict resolution, often stemming from experiences of physical and verbal abuse within their families and on the streets. The journey of healing and transformation is long and difficult.
Despite these challenges, many boys express a genuine desire to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and grow in a relationship with Him. We observe evident changes in them as they begin thinking and acting differently. One example is a boy who shared, “I was tempted to steal something from another boy but the Holy Spirit reminded me that it’s wrong and I didn’t.”
Since transitioning from a group-oriented to an individualized approach in our Discipleship Program, we have observed a notable increase in effectiveness and impact. This enables us to tailor our discipleship efforts to the specific levels and needs of each boy. Currently 12 boys are going through the Discipleship Program.
In addition, 4 of them are attending Baptism Classes atour local Church!
Life at Home
By God’s grace, 6 boys have been reunited with family and relatives and began new chapters of their lives at home. Alex Musyoki, Bramwell John, Kelvin Kabui, Alex Chege Michael Mutua and Kevin Mulinge are thankful to Embrace for making this transition possible and for continuing to support them in their families and at school.
Weza Care
This year we began a partnership with Weza Care – a consulting firm that supports organizations working with street children and their families. They have conducted training sessions for our team, focusing on effective reintegration methods and ensuring legal compliance.
We are eager to continue learning and receiving further guidance from Weza Care, as we strive to expand our ministry and enhance our impact, as God guides and wills.
Current Events in Kenya
Kenya is currently facing a difficult time. A new Finance Bill was to increase taxes on common items for already struggling Kenyans. The proposal triggered nationwide protests, driven by young Kenyans frustrated with the government and corruption. The protests have been violent, causing great damage and claiming many lives. Roads were closed and movement was unsafe. Despite some interference with our field activities, we thank God for keeping Embrace safe during this challenging time.
Prayer Requests
1.Peace in Kenya and protection for Kenyans and street children. 2.Our boys at the Centre. Our boys at home and their families. 3.Our missionaries and staff team.
We continue to thank God for you and your continued faithfulness and generosity! Please feel free to share any feedback you may have.
